Florals & foliage : A daisy & billy button bouquet

Why do yellow round balls make me happy?! Perhaps it’s because they look like mini suns? And the sun always puts me in a good mood! Either way Billy Buttons, or Craspedia Globosa for the florists amongst you, are stupidly cute and when surrounded by those daisy-type flowers (you can tell I’m not a florist) make such a sweet bouquet…

Beautiful biscuits & DIY cocktails

These yummy yellow & grey details aren’t actually from a wedding, but instead from a wedding exhibition in Michigan. They still offer up some gorgeous ideas for your big day though, and I always love looking at delicious dessert tables! Viva la Diva, Elevated Press, and pot & box came up with the gorgeous tablescape and Viva la Diva and sweet Heather Anne dreamed up the desserts. The biscuits are incredibly beautiful and I adore that contemporary cake; anything featuring buttons is brilliant in my opinion!

The embroidery hoops also make a fab decor detail and a DIY cocktail station = amazing!

Inspiration board: Citrus Pop

I’m a big fan of inspiration boards and when deciding to start my blog this is one of the things I couldn’t wait to create! It wasn’t easy producing this first one especially as I don’t have permission to use tons of images (these images are from people who kindly said yes without even seeing my blog) But, with time, hopefully my blog will become more popular and more photographers will be willing to showcase their work and I’ll be able to make loads of awesome inspiration boards!

This one I’m calling Citrus Pop. I think this would be particularly suited to a Spring or Summer wedding but other than that any type of venue would benefit from this bright pop of colour. It’s ultra-modern and perfect for those not-so-girly girls wanting something other than pastel pinks (will be sure to do a board for pastel pinks at a later date):

Citrus Pop Ideas

Here’s a few of my ideas to help you achieve a Citrus Pop wedding:

Stationery: Bright! DIY stationery could be as simple as black (wedding day details) and yellow (couple’s names in a fancy font) text printed on crisp white card and popped in a bright yellow envelope. Would certainly stand out against the boring bills and junk mail!

Bride: A splash of citrus for the bride could be a piece of jewellery or a hairclip.

Bridesmaids: Any citrus hue would work. The green in the board would be a nice change if there’s a lot of yellow going on elsewhere. White flowers would be perfect as it may get a bit much otherwise!

Shoes: HAVE to be bright yellow! I love it when brides go for a pop of colour with their shoes and it would suit a wedding like this perfectly. And if you do opt for bright yellow shoes make sure your photographer gets a shot of them!

Flowers: Again, bright yellow. Or orange. Or both! Primulas, gerberas, daisies, tanacetum, chrysanthemums, freesias, sunflowers…

Groom/groomsmen: Citrus cufflinks, a tie or a boutonnière like the one in the image would suit this modern theme.

Decoration: A choice or mixture of green, orange and yellow paper lanterns to light the venue. Use lemons for place holders as in the inspiration board: really cheap but look great. For tablecentres pick a range of vases all different shapes and sizes and fill with simple bright flowers such as Acacia or Marigolds.

Cake: A cake featuring lemons, limes and oranges as seen in the picture is perfect and will certainly stand out. Or opt for cupcakes with those sugary, jelly lemon and orange slice decorations you can buy from all good superstores. Or how about cakes with bright yellow fondant icing?

Food/drink: Your wedding theme doesn’t need to stretch to the menu but it could be fun to incorporate it. For a Citrus Pop wedding in the warmer seasons think pitchers of cloudy lemonade with slices of lemon. Lemon sorbet served in a lemon shell would be a refreshing dessert. OK so it’s not the classiest dessert, seemingly served in every restaurant going where they buy in their desserts (the photos-on-the-menu type of restaurants), but it‘s tasty and looks fun. I, for one, would love to be served sorbet on a hot summer’s day!

Favours: Limoncello liqueur in swing top bottles with a homemade gift tag or for a non-alcoholic option fill a cellophane bag with lemon sherbets and tie with a bright yellow, orange or lime green bow.

Other ideas: Lining the aisle of an outdoor wedding with fruit (as in the image) is such a unique idea and undoubtedly one many of your guests will never have seen before!
