Lovely Leaff

The lovely Kaitie of Leaff Design got in touch recently to share her wedding invites. I loved the amount of detail that went into them and as Leaff Design specialises in commissioned designer wedding stationery she could make you something similarly gorgeous for your own wedding. Yay!

Kaitie told me a little bit about Leaff…

Leaff is a small and friendly graphic design company that began in April 2010, from my own and my fiance’s dream of owning our own design business. We are both professional graphic designers, and we love what we do! We got into wedding stationery design long before Leaff was born, when a lot of our friends were getting married. They called on our skills for their wedding stationery, and it inflamed a passion for that area of design. Being an honest, friendly and approachable company, we very much enjoy working with individuals on personal projects like this.

Here’s a few snippets of past projects…

Intricately illustrated

The beautiful invitations for Kaitie & James’ wedding follow a romantic theme, with soft, feminine shades, hand illustrations, and intricate detail (their names on the bridge is an especially sweet touch). The whole range was printed onto a heavy weight, uncoated ivory board. They hand finished each of the maps by folding them using a form of origami, and sealing them with a sticker. Finally the invitations were wrapped in ivory tissue and sealed with a wax stamp…

I imagine the guests were delighted on opening them! If you’d like something similar just contact Leaff Design for a consultation. I think that just leaves me to say a big congratulations to Kaitie and James on their upcoming October wedding and wish them all the best with their business :)

Papercut presents

If you’ve been reading this blog a while you may have learnt of my penchant for paper. Not just plain paper in its boring flat form but paper art. And today I have got some amazing paper art to share with you that can be used in so many ways relating to your wedding. Taking just a piece of paper and a scalpel, London-based artist, Julene makes hundreds of intricate cuts to create her artwork. Her illustration style in itself is impressive but by turning it into a paper cut piece rather than a flat print it creates something much more tangible and incredible… I also love how she photographs her work with all the spare bits by the side!

So what could you use these paper cuts for?

1. A proposal

I know I’d be impressed if my man went for a proposal such as this one:

2. Save the date

You could use these pretty paper cuts to announce your wedding date:

3. Invitations

Or have one as the invitation itself. You could either have laser cut invitations made by Julene or photograph/scan a one-off piece that you could then also frame as artwork for yourself:

4. Table numbers

The paper theme could be taken through to your actual event with intricate table numbers:

5. Wedding gift

These pieces would make superb gifts for a wedding either for your partner or to buy for a happy couple:

6. Anniversary

And you probably couldn’t get a more perfect present for your first anniversary which, of course, is paper!

And they’re just the wedding ideas! You could commission a completely customisable piece from Julene for any occasion such as a new baby, a birthday, to celebrate a new home or just because you want a piece of gorgeous artwork to hang on your wall. They can be based on whatever you want too including motifs that have meaning or song lyrics that you love. Commissions cost £230 for A4 and £330 for A3 but there are also some limitied edition laser-cut pieces in Julene’s Etsy shop. Head on over to her website where you will see so many more amazing examples. I wish I could have shown them all!

Cute Maps

Cute Maps is the creation of Sheree, a bride who started a business because of her big day due to one of her wedding details! Rather than just include a few words to describe to guests where her wedding was taking place she decided to draw a cute map: an illustration showing all the important info for guests with the addition of icons of surrounding landmarks all in a very cute style!

Cute_Maps

After Sheree’s wedding friends started asking if she’d cresate a map for them and now she creates them for wedding couples worldwide! And of course it’s not just weddings this idea would work for, basically any event where you need to clearly show someone the direction to go, a Cute Map can be the answer!

Cute Maps can make a lovely addition to your stationery suite or can be the invitation itself as they feature your names and your wedding date. You can also have more details added to the back or opt for your map in a save-the-date magnet format.

Knots & Kisses

It’s been quite some time since I featured some lovely stationery on the blog. It’s definitely time for more so I have the fantastic stationery supplier Knots & Kisses to share with you!

I asked owner Nikki a little about the business and how it came to be…

I currently run the business alone, although my partner is involved financially (and also with big orders if I need an extra pair of hands!) and I also have a couple of people I call on if a bride and groom want anything like bunting making to match their stationery.

I studied Fashion Promotion & Illustration at university and worked for many years as a Visual Merchandiser, before deciding to take the plunge and set up my own stationery business 2 years ago. I was inspired by styling and doing all the stationery for my sister’s wedding back in 2005, and had done the same for a few friends and colleagues after that, but taking the plunge and going full time was a big gamble.

Fortunately it’s paid off and I absolutely love working with couples to design their wedding stationery. For many it’s the first thing they do after booking a venue so you can really help them with the style of the wedding and pulling all their ideas together. I really pride myself on a personal service… I feel brides should be able to ring you up with questions or queries at any time.

I’m particularly inspired by vintage themes. Last year most of the stationery was based around ‘Country Garden Parties’ and ‘Old School Hollywood Glamour’, so I’m continuing with the vintage feel this year… only with a slightly quirkier twist.

‘English Eccentrics’ is the new range, launched last Friday, and hopefully within the next couple of months I’ll be bringing out a range called ‘Wonderland’.

English Eccentrics

Without further ado I have to show you the new range as I, for one, love it!

English-Eccentrics

The unusual combination of tweed and lace works perfectly and I love that coffee-stained look!

The vintage look is a style Nikki’s excellent at incorporating into her stationery. Here are my personal favourites from her ranges…

Pretty! And perfect for so many English weddings. Also Nikki is completely happy to use swatches of the bridesmaid dresses to alter the designs available to match your colour scheme. Just call her if you have any questions!

I’m sure the new range is going to do extremely well and I cannot wait to see Wonderland!

Swirly script

I raved about the Hummingbird Card Company, back in April, after I saw their stunning stationery at The National Wedding Show. They kindly sent me a sample of one of their butterfly cards recently and I have to say I was blown away by how beautiful the invitation was. I just love laser-cut cards!

Recently they launched a new range of stationery. It’s not laser-cut, but it is still lovely. Their silhouette range features phrases in swirly script that are simple yet striking:

Swirly-script

Can’t really go wrong with purely text designs in classic black!
