Posts featuring ‘purple’

Ken & Joy : Little Horsethief Ranch, California

Today’s wedding took place over a year ago, so why show it? Well not only is it completely cool with loads of quirky little details but I figured wedding blogs are constantly welcoming new readers with newly engaged brides-to-be so there’s a good chance you haven’t come across it!

Ken & Joy’s wedding is also the perfect example to show you that DIYing your day can lead to spectacular results. Joy even made her own dress as well as all her bridesmaid’s dresses! And the chapel built by Ken’s father? ‘Incredible’ isn’t enough! See for yourself and then break out the box of buttons and sticky-back plastic…

Sophie & Nick : 30-07-10 : Harrogate & Leeds continued

There were beautiful details in the first part of this wedding and there’s still more to come… enjoy!

Sophie-&-Nick

Reception venue: Rudding Park Hotel, Harrogate. A fantastic hotel, the staff were exceptional and extremely professional and friendly. The hotel and its grounds are beautiful and stylish.

Table plan: I made this myself using vintage-style wallpaper and I cut the butterflies using a laser cutter and then spray painted them to give them a vintage feel. The font which was used throughout all the stationery was meant to look like an old typewriter to continue the vintage feel.

Table cards: To continue the butterfly theme the tables were named after butterflies. The top table was purple emperor which just so happens to be a butterfly name and matched the colour theme! I also made this myself using the same wallpaper and laser cut butterflies.

Place cards: This was the only stationery I bought. They were from Hobbycraft. Again cream butterflies to fit within the theme.

Cake: Our cake was bespoke made to fit within the vintage butterfly theme by our wonderful friends Audrey & Roland Meredith, they are based in Leeds and provide a bespoke service (Tel: 01132 843449)

Favours: I made the porcelain hearts myself. Being an artist I wanted the guests to have something they could keep and that I had spent time making and I think they fitted well within the ‘vintage’ theme.

First dance: Heaven by DJ Sammy sung by Jill Ryder who can be hired for weddings. She has the most gorgeous voice.

Entertainment: Jill Ryder sang a variety of selected music throughout the canapés. We had piano music throughout the wedding breakfast provided by Andy Charlton at Morris Williams.

Extras: The videographer was Simon Manning. He was fantastic at capturing the detail from the day as was our wonderful photographer Annemarie King. She is just amazing at capturing detail and emotional special moments throughout the day. We had a roulette table in the evening provided by Donald Smith

Best bit of the day: Walking down the aisle with my dad behind my 7 beautiful bridesmaids and pageboy in front of all our wonderful family and friends to see my lovely husband-to-be waiting for me. It was such a magical moment.

Such a gorgeous wedding! The purple is a really striking colour choice and the flowers are just stunning! I love the wish tree with the different butterfly beads and buttons stuck onto tags; an idea you could easily recreate for your own wedding.

A big thank you to Annemarie for letting me share her work and a big congrats to Sophie & Nick; I hope married life is every bit as beautiful as your wedding was.

Sophie & Nick : 30-07-10 : Harrogate & Leeds

I have another two-parter wedding post for you! First part today, second part tomorrow, both parts beautiful and crammed with gorgeous images from the fab Annemarie King. Sophie & Nick’s wedding day is a fantastic example of how to pick a theme you like and then carry it through all the gorgeous details…

The meeting

We met when we were 15 years old out with our friends.

The proposal

Nick took me to a beautiful hotel on the Holy Island in Northumberland. We had seen the hotel 2 years before and we both wished we had stayed there; Nick remembered this and took me back there for our 10 year anniversary. He proposed, as the sun set behind us, in the restaurant of the hotel in front of lots of people! He chose my beautiful ring, it was perfect…

The wedding

Stationery: Being an artist I made all the invitations, order of service, menus , table names, table plan, wish tree labels, gift tags and thank you cards myself, using wallpaper.

Hair: A wonderful family friend who is also an amazing hairdresser called Sue Fry based in Alwoodley Leeds.

Make-up: Helen at Me! Amazing make up that lasted all day!

Dress: I designed my dress myself after finding nothing that quite fit the idea I had. I then went to Anita Massarella in Moortown Leeds as I knew they made couture bespoke gowns. Whilst describing my idea Anita drew the design. The dress was bespoke made with silk and Italian lace. I cannot recommend Anita and her team highly enough, both my mum and I loved visiting the shop and seeing how the dress developed over time. Such lovely people, a fantastic shop.

Shoes: Rachel Simpson, she makes beautiful vintage inspired shoes, they are a little bit different and fit perfectly with the dress.

Bridesmaids: The dresses were bespoke made by Debbie Goldthorpe at Paradise Grove, Horsforth, Leeds. Debbie was fantastic at working with a lot of bridesmaids and made exactly what we wanted and managed to source that gorgeous purple fabric.

Groom/groomsmen: The suits were hired from Moss Bros and the ties were made with the same fabric as the bridesmaid’s dresses.

Flowers & buttonholes: Joanna McCrea at Twisted Willow Floristry. Joanna listened as to what we wanted the overall ambience of the day to be like – summer meadow, natural arrangements, colourful, lots of variety! Together with my mum and Joanna’s extensive knowledge of flowers they had such a massive impact on the look of the day.

Transport: A Beauford provided by Lavelle Classics for the bride and groom. A Daimler provided by Terry Scott Vintage Cars for the bridesmaids.

Ceremony venue: St Giles Church, Bramhope, Leeds.

Ceremony music: We had the singer Jill Ryder she sang Songbird as I walked down the aisle. We had the traditional hymns All Things Bright and Beautiful & Praise My Soul.

I love that Sophie had a wedding scrapbook! This is a great idea for all brides. Buy a book full of blank pages and everything you see that you like whether it be from magazines or printed from a blog or a swatch of material – stick it in! Having all the ideas you like in one place in front of you will help you decide on your vision for the day. Sophie’s vision was executed perfectly; you’ll see for yourself tomorrow…

Inspiration Board: Lilac & lavender

Today’s inspiration board is a romantic mix of soft purples and bright and bold purples for all the romantics amongst you:

Inspiration Board: Lilac & lavender

Lilac & Lavender

Here are a few of my ideas to help you achieve a Lilac & Lavender wedding:

Stationery: Hinting towards your colour scheme, this design is a nice mix of contemporary design and romance with the addition of crystals and ribbon.

Bride: Something simple and floaty similar to the inspiration board would be lovely. I like the idea of adding a purple sash to the dress too: for interest and to complement the colour scheme.

Bridesmaids: Differing shades of purple, from bold to pale, would be a modern choice that would look great!

Shoes: To match the sash. These shoes are suitably frilly with diamantés.

Flowers: White with purple ribbon tying them together. Or purple flowers: I love this hydrangea bouquet or this bunch of lilacs.

Groom/groomsmen: A purple tie and a sprig of lavender for a boutonnière would do!

Decoration: If you have a larger budget then the tall vases filled with various shades of purple blooms make a fantastic table centrepiece. However, if you want something simpler, or budget is tight, then you can’t go wrong with sprigs of lilac or lavender in jars or small vases. I also love the look of the stacked plates in the image, perhaps scour flea markets if you also like this look. Don’t worry about everybody’s plates matching just stick with shades of purple. Spraying plates is always an option but make sure you don’t spray the one the guest is eating off! Touches of metallics work well with this colour scheme too.

Cake: Cupcakes with poured fondant as in the image are suitably simple and pretty for this look. I also think a white tiered cake with purple polka dot ribbon could look really cute!

Favours: Parma violets! In a little jar with polka dot ribbon and a gift tag with the guests’ names, therefore doubling up as place cards and saving you money!

Other ideas: Clusters of paper lanterns in various shades of purple will add to the romance at night.
