Inspiration board : All that glitters

There’s nothing like a bit of sparkle injected into a wedding. It’s a stunning look that has a warm, comforting feel to it and because of that I believe these glittery ideas would be adorable in an autumnal affair…

Ruffled and romantic

Romantic ruffles are a wedding trend I love. There are so many ways to introduce them into your wedding: ruffled dresses for the bride and/or bridesmaids, ruffled accessories, ruffled ribbons draped around the ceremony and reception or perhaps a ruffled cake. Any colour will work with ruffles but I’ve picked pretty, pink pictures today. And rather than just show you some lovely pictures… here’s where you can learn how to make the crepe paper streamers, here’s how to ice a ruffled cake and here’s how to make your very own ruffled necklace! I’m so good to you ;)

Helen & Jules : The Medieval Hall, Salisbury

Eleanor is an amazing photographer that introduced herself a year ago now and I’ve been wanting to show her work ever since. Today I finally have a wedding to share with you! But after you’ve seen it you really should go and check out Eleanor’s blog. She’s really cool and photographs rock stars and does a lot of travelling whilst documenting it with amazing images. And she talks about her love of photography often whilst also ranting about it once in a while too. Which I love :)

But back to the wedding… Helen & Jules’ beautiful big day with fab shoes, a hot pink bow and a totally cute couple! Here’s Eleanor to tell us more…

The wedding

Helen & I went to art school together and it was there that her & Jules met, eight years ago, during their very first week at university. They’ve more recently been living and working in Dubai so when she announced that they were going to tie the knot AND do it in the UK I was thrilled to be asked to take the photographs. I’ve been so excited about this wedding since we first discussed it eighteen months ago as I knew the details would be as sweet & creative as the bride and the settings around Salisbury Cathedral were almost too perfect to be true.

Helen & her bridal party spent the morning getting ready at St Ann’s House, an elegant B&B in the heart of the town (with incredible breakfasts by all accounts!), before taking a short stroll through cobbled streets and across the gardens of the cathedral to the ceremony at the Medieval Hall.

The reception was around the corner in the pretty grounds & conservatory of Leaden Hall Girls School – such a unique location. Helen’s dress was handmade in Dubai and she wore a pretty gold Arabic name necklace purchased from the souks in the ancient part of the city. There wasn’t an definite theme as such but the emphasis was on silly fun with close friends & family, elements of a quaint English country fair and lots & lots of hot pink!

Helen & Jules’ families were so warm & welcoming and the couple so clearly in love with each other it was infectious. Even my assistant, who had never met them before, was blubbering away during the speeches! Plus, their first dance was the song Robbie sings to Julia at the end of The Wedding Singer – how cute!

One cool wedding car…

…amongst other ace wedding details! Today I have the pleasure of sharing a few photos from a wedding that Jennifer of Jennifer Sue Weddings created (thanks Jen!) As well as the amazing wedding transport, I love the romantic atmosphere Jen created in the garden where Dannielle & Ian shared their vows. Those ribbons blowing in the breeze are so beautiful…

After many years together and two beautiful children, Dannielle and Ian decided it was time to tie the knot. They opted for a humanist ceremony to go with the relaxed feel of the day. Using the lovely gardens of the Rose and Crown Country Hotel in Buckinghamshire, we opted for a simple vintage white feel for the ceremony to give it elegance and grace. I commandeered the groomsmen to climb the central tree in the garden to hang a dozen white lanterns, as this was to be the focal point of the ceremony. We hired in wooden chairs and created an aisle of petals. I decorated the orchard with reels of ribbons, lace bunting and painted wooden hearts. I then made a wishing tree, hung with luggage tags for guests to write messages on; this made a pretty backdrop for the wedding party photos.

In contrast to the serene white decor of the gardens, we went for fun brights inside the marquee. Whilst the wedding party were enjoying their meal I was turning the garden into a colour-fest, with the bride’s found pots and vases filled with bright flowers and plants that we had prepared earlier. These were set upon bright pink runners with candles on each table.

As a surprise for the children, Dannielle had arranged for a bouncy castle and a sweet table to be brought in to keep them happy. For the latter, I used ribbon-bound kitchen jars and antique cake stands to hold the sweets and cakes. The children were squealing with delight as they scooped up their confectioneries into stripey pink paper bags.

The weather was perfect and later on in the day one of the groomsmen proposed to a very shocked bridesmaid. She said yes!
