Bell & Belle

My eye is always drawn to anything made with beautiful fabric. Purely because I find beautiful fabric so darn hard to come by. So many shops stock rubbish and I always find myself ordering online from America. I wonder if America actually has amazing stores full of beautiful fabric or whether the good places purely exist online?!

Anyway, I was an instant fan of Hello In There because the fabric choices are lovely. When there’s so much bad fabric out there, I appreciate items made from the good :)

Hello In There is a collaboration between sister Beverly and brother Adam; a textile design and architecture student respectively. Their first adventure is making ‘bell & belle’ bow ties out of vintage and remnant fabrics. These beautiful bow ties are all adjustable, reversible, self tying and would be a totally unique and chic pick for your maids!

Even if you don’t fancy your maids wearing them, one member of the wedding party that would definitely benefit from a bow tie is the groom. So go see which ones you like :)

Vintage Whistles

This week’s shaping up to have a bit of a vintage theme! I’ve shown you gorgeous dresses, stunning jewellery and now… something for the men. I don’t often post about wedding topics for the men. Probably because I’m a little biased; being a girl I much prefer looking at pretty dresses! But when Denise emailed me to let me know about her collection of vintage men’s suits I had to feature them simply because I really liked them!

Personally I’m not a fan of top hat and tails, nothing wrong with them, I just can’t imagine whoever I end up marrying wearing something that fancy! It could perhaps be something to do with my current boyfriend’s attire. If I end up marrying him, just managing to get him in something other than jeans for the big day will be an achievement! I certainly couldn’t see him in (and he certainly wouldn’t let me put him in) traditional wedding tails. However, a classic vintage jacket? Yep, I can see that suiting him.

Pinstriped & plaid

Denise set up Vintage Whistles (since renamed Tweedmans Vintage) (whistle & flute = suit in Cockney land) in early 2006 and it has since become a leading British supplier of vintage suits. Supplying vintage attire to a range of clients and for a range of reasons including vintage fashion lovers, bands, film & stage productions, fancy dress, Mad Men fashion followers, VW camper & classic car enthusiasts, celebrities, Doctor Who fans and for vintage weddings. Which, of course, is the very reason I’m showing you. If the bride’s got her gorgeous gown and the perfect accessory then it’s time to dress the man.

So, for the groom, how about one of these stylish suits:

Vintage-Whistles

That’s just a small selection of what’s on offer. There are many more suits, that you can even search by era, and many accessories to go with. And if you’re at all worried about sizing there’s a comprehensive guide on the website but, if you need any more help, you’re more than welcome to contact Denise or her business partner (& husband) Steve for help.

And, as vintage pieces are particularly hard to find, it’s highly unlikely you’ll see someone else in the same suit. So for those of you looking for something a little unusual and a little unique for their special day a vintage whistle & flute could well be the way to go.

Ties that don't suck

After the girliness of yesterday, I’ve got something much more manly for you!

I have no idea when I will get married or even who to for that matter. But I’m pretty sure the man I end up living happily ever after with won’t be a top hat and tails man. I don’t even think he’d be a waistcoat man. Actually, most men probably aren’t waistcoat men! And your wedding day may be the only time you’ll get a guy to wear one!

It’s certainly a very smart look and definitely fitting for a church wedding. But if you wanted a more casual affair I don’t think you could go wrong with a crisp suit, shirt and tie.

Tie over top hat

But don’t pick just any tie. Go for those created in the Cyberoptix Tie Lab , hand printed to order in Detroit, by talented designer Bethany Shorb.

Their tagline is “ties that don’t suck”. And it’s true. They don’t suck at all. In fact they look bloomin’ good:

Tasty ties

Tie choices

They’re customisable too. Once you’ve picked a design there are more choices:

  • Fat tie
  • Thin tie or…
  • Child’s clip-on tie
  • Colour of tie: swatch cards can help you match it to other wedding buys
  • Colour of ink
  • Silk tie that’s dry clean only ($44 including delivery to the UK: roughly £28)
  • Or a more budget/hand-washing friendly microfiber tie ($34 including delivery to the UK: roughly £22)

Same ink different tie

You can get sets made up for the groom and groomsmen too (at a reduced price). Which I think work particularly well when using the same design and ink colour but just changing the colour of the groom’s tie:

Or doing a straight switch of both ink and tie colour to set apart the groom from the groomsmen:

A pretty package

There are pretty packaging upgrades to be had also, so the groomsmen could be presented with their tie on the day as a gift. It’s actually a great gift idea for groomsmen even if they aren’t wearing it for the wedding!

And if this is the case but you just can’t choose then get them a gift certificate and let them pick out a trendy tie themselves!
