Posts featuring ‘confetti’

Confetti cute

Pinterest is great for stumbling across things you may have missed the first time around. This stupidly cute and colourful confetti-filled inspiration was featured in Styled magazine back in April but I’ve only just seen it. Doesn’t make me love it any less though. Especially as it’s entirely DIY-able…

How happy would you be if you got a wedding-day shot looking like that last one?!

Ribbon wands

Over a year ago I wrote a post on Natural Snaps: ideas for alternatives to confetti. Well here’s another adorable idea to add, complete with where you can find the DIY project. Ribbon wands are a super-cute way for guests to send you off on your honeymoon or just wave around whilst you share your first kisses as husband and wife. They’re really easy to make, just click here for the know how. You can get creative with colours and styles of ribbon, decide whether to add jingle bells and even think up ways to display them for your guests to grab…

Lilac Saloon

I love finding crafty people making gorgeous wedding ‘details’ on Etsy. Such as Megan. She runs Lilac Saloon and sells an array of cute, handcrafted, perfect-for-weddings stuff! Like these fab felt flowers…

Lilac-Saloon-Flowers

I think loads of the wall flowers (pictured at the top) would look fantastic on a central wall either as a backdrop to the ceremony or your first dance… and a felt flower for the hair just to tie it all in :)

And then there’s the embroidery hoops with the sweet embroidery…

But my personal favourite? Felt heart-shaped confetti!

At approximately £6 it’s probably a little pricey for all your guests to throw at you after the ceremony but the cost is a reflection of the fact Megan hand cuts each and every lil heart out! This product actually came from Megan not wanting to chuck all the felty remnants from her bigger projects away and so to conserve resources she made the hearts! They’d look super-cute sprinkled on your wedding tables :)

Shower with flowers

Although I’m a big fan of picking something different for your big day, I think some traditions are too lovely to do away with. And, for me, confetti is one of them. The tradition of throwing confetti actually dates back to pagan times when the bride and groom were showered with grain: the hope being that the fertility of the seeds would be passed on to them. And the name? Well that comes from the Italian for confectionery, as they prefer to shower the happy couple in sugared nuts!

I’m thinking hard nuts aren’t the nicest thing to chuck at newlyweds though. They’re not very pretty or romantic and, more importantly, they could hurt!

Pick ‘n’ mix pretty

A far prettier (and softer) option is to have dried petals thrown at you. And I found a company that have got loads to choose from. Shropshire Petals offer enough different petals for you to easily find something to complement your day. And they even have a pick ‘n’ mix option!

Pricing petals

They say delphinium petals make the best confetti as it’s lighter and takes longer to fall, giving your photographer a better chance of getting the all important kiss-under-confetti shot. One litre provides around 10 handfuls. Priced at £9.50 a litre that’s only 95p per guest and they also note that you don’t need to supply all your guests with the stuff, just the ladies will do. If you’re on a tight budget and can’t afford to supply to all the ladies but still want a flower shower on your day then you could just get enough for any bridesmaids, flower girls and the mums of bride and groom. Or if you’re not picky about colours go for this offer as it’s only £30 for 10 litres, around 90-100 handfuls!

Boxes, baskets & buckets

They also offer confetti cones, keepsake boxes and baskets to store the confetti in until the throwing moment arrives. And they sell a basket for your flower girl if you like the idea of her lining the aisle with petals before you make your entrance:

Table decoration

Bigger petals would look lovely strewn on tables at your reception. Especially the stunning freeze dried peony heads:

They also offer beautiful wheat sheaves: perfect for nuptials taking place in the countryside!

Au naturale

Best bit is that it’s all natural and biodegradable so those venues that are funny about confetti may just let you get away with these pretty petals. And that means you can get a photo that looks as great as this:
