Posts featuring ‘cake topper’

Super-cute cake toppers!

These adorable images landed in my inbox recently and I had to share them on the blog! These cute cake toppers were conceived when Vivien made some for her own wedding coming up in June. She has since opened an Etsy shop Angel in my Attic so she can share them with other couples. They’re customised to look like the bride and groom and Vivien can even have your bridesmaids, pageboys, even pets join you on top of the cake!

I’m sure you’ll have seen wooden doll cake toppers before but each artist styles them differently and that is what makes them unique. With Vivien’s I love the wool strands for hair that are applied individually and their big, round hand-painted eyes. I adore the little pets too!

So sweet! I think I’d make my man grow a moustache just so I could have one on the doll :)

For a cute cake

I’ve done a post on cake toppers before but I did not know about the following cuties then! Therefore, Brandi’s amazing creations for her MilkTea Etsy shop are getting their very own blog post. And rightly so. They are just adorable! I love the facial expressions; these little wooden dolls look blissfully happy, just as you should be on your wedding day! I love the detail: the flowers in the hair, the little bow ties and buttons and the details of the dresses. And the best bit is they are completely customisable, from hair colour and hair style to skin tones and suit colours. Brandi will even recreate your dress for an additional charge!

Enough talking, get ready to go ‘awwwww’…

How cute?!

Without a wedding?

But what if you need one of these cake toppers and haven’t got a wedding on the horizon? How about dropping numerous hints in time for your next birthday…

The number is removable so you can use the topper for every birthday! And you can even switch the digit for a sign stating an occasion of your choice.

Beat the budget

For those on a wedding day budget, these toppers are detailed enough to go on a plain cake. So you could buy or make a simple sponge, ice it (white buttercream would look lovely), tie a ribbon in a co-ordinating colour around the bottom and pop your topper on. It’ll look lovely on the day and make the sweetest souvenir for every day after.

Icing adornments

Cake toppers are an awesome way to add a touch of the unique to your wedding and I’m not talking about the tacky, plastic, badly-painted bride and grooms that may spring to mind (although these would actually look really cool in a vintage-inspired wedding).

Nowadays there are crafters out there making all sorts of cake ornaments, a lot of which can offer customisable options to reflect you and your partner. They can make a simple cake become a talking point and after the wedding the cake topper can be removed, washed free of icing and become a cute keepsake from the day.

There are many people offering cartoon clay representations of the bride and groom but personally I prefer more simplified depictions of the wedding couple. Sometimes these don’t even have to be human: customised birds work really well and I like the whole ‘love-bird’ idea behind it. I think birds would probably be topper of choice if I opt to get married in a natural setting such as a garden or barn. That’s if I had a cake rather than cupcakes, but that’s another post…

Toppers that can be customised can be a lot of fun and can really tie in with the theme of your day. Customisation could be as detailed as featuring the groom’s beard or the bride’s glasses or as little as incorporating the theme colour of your day.

I’ve collected examples of what I think are particularly unique and unusual cake toppers. All of the artists featured have many more examples to see so if you like them please go and check out their other creations to get an idea of exactly what’s available to you. And if you don’t see exactly what you’re looking for then just email the crafter; it’s more than likely they’ll be happy to make something to your specifications that will look ideal on your icing.
