Ombre seems to have been a pretty big trend this year. And I, for one, am a fan. These ombre cookie cutter cakes from Glorious Treats are not only pretty but, fancy rose icing aside, I imagine they’d be pretty simple to make. With a few weeks to perfect your icing these would make an awesome DIY dessert for your guests that would look just as great as if you’d hired a fancy cake maker :)

So first of all, there’s this dress. It’s stunning! All cut-out detail, scalloped edging and a stupidly beautiful big bow…

…and then there’s the shoes! They’re like a work of embroidered art. Being a huge lover of craft I can’t quite get over how adorable they are.

I’m just glad I don’t know who made them because buying shoes isn’t in my budget right now ;)

Cleverly titled like that film with Julia Roberts in it, this blog series is all about my mate’s journey to marriage. Last time we heard the love story of Verity and Gavin. Today we find out their vision for the big day itself.

Interestingly they both created a mood board, without the other seeing it. Today is the first time they will see each other’s desires for their big day! So let’s get to business and see whether their boards match up or whether there are going to be arguments ahead ;)

Gavin’s Inspiration Board

Gavin obviously wants a few traditional elements in there like the car and the suit but there are definitely a few touches that aren’t taken from your average traditional wedding. It has a really natural feel to it, favouring rustic elements like wood and pebbles. As a keen photographer he obviously wants photography to play a part in his day. And I think it needs to be noted that when he pinned the image with lots of photos he attached the message “I want a photo wall of our special journey together in life so far”. That Gavin is a sweetheart :)

Verity’s Inspiration Board

Verity’s board is filled with colour and light. You can tell she’s drawn to the romance of the day with the ambience she’s selected and the cute couple on the pier. Her board also favours a relaxed day with a picnic setting, a campfire and what possibly may be a wedding night tent? The crafted canopy and buttons, along with showing her love of colour, also suggest she wants a handcrafted element to her wedding.

My conclusion

I’m no expert but I think I’m going to go with a verdict of… no arguments!

There is a lot in these two boards that complement each other. They both have a rustic, relaxed charm. Verity will love a focus on photography because those memories are so important to her. I think perhaps Verity may need to compromise by introducing a few traditional elements in the day that mean a lot to Gavin and Gavin may need to understand that Verity wants a splash of colour.

Either way I’m confident they can create a day they will both love.

And I know it’s going to be beautiful!

They were made for an annual competition which, this year, launched on April 18th (I know, I know, I’m late in telling you) and closes on June 1st (yay, there’s still time to make one!)

Be warned though; if you create something this beautiful out of a load of toilet rolls you may well be tempted to wear it for your wedding day. And it probably wouldn’t work so well in rainy weather :/
