Looking for a truly awesome venue that is going to amaze your guests? Well I think I’ve found just the thing! York-based PapaKåta create amazing venues from tipi-style tents inspired by those used by the Sami people of Lapland.
Because of their Scandinavian origin these tents can withstand all weather conditions meaning you can have a tent event during the coldest British winter and still be all cosy inside!
Dancing & relaxing
The tents are fully flexible too and can be designed around the amount of guests you need to seat, as well as providing a dance floor complete with mirror ball or chill out area with comfy cushions and real fires if you so desire:
If you’re stuck for inspiration when imagining your ideal layout then the floor plans provided show just how versatile this venue can be.
Tent with all the trimmings
As well as the layout of the tents, the interior can be decorated in numerous ways to complement your style. PapaKåta offer loads of finishing touches to help you create your perfect reception. The tents look lovely with traditional wedding decor:
But I think they look just as awesome with simple wooden tables (provided by PapaKåta) topped with an assortment of flowers in jars and jugs:
Or how about a splash of colour?
Location, location, location
Of course, you’ll need to find somewhere to put your tents. PapaKåta have kindly provided some useful links to suggest where you could locate your venue. But if these are too far from friends and family then they recommend contacting the following:
- Your local council. They often have public spaces in parks, woods and city centres that you can use.
- Self-catering holiday cottages. They may have some land or a garden that you can use with the accommodation.
- Pubs, restaurants & hotels. Often you can hire their land and they may even do the catering and bar too.
- National Farmers Union. They will be able to help you search for a field that a farmer’s willing to hire.
Tipi for two
And if you’re thinking that, after a long and tiring (but of course blissfully happy) day, you don’t want to have to travel far to your bed? How about hiring a honeymoon tipi?!
Cute!
I’m really loving these PapaKåta tents. I love how many layout options there are and that you are left with a blank canvas to work with when it comes to your decor. Some venues would look odd with a certain style of decoration but I honestly believe anything looks great in these tents! The chill-out tent in particular is an awesome idea! Formal seating is great for eating but I’d love to go to a wedding where I could move away from the table and relax on cushions enjoying a glass of rosé (or a bottle!)
Twilight tipis
Just make sure you consider lighting costs in your budget when it comes to dressing this venue. I’m thinking it’s all about the fires and the candles and the fairy lights for a super-cosy setting that will look lovely long after dark.

Amazing right?!
