‘Real weddings’ posts

Selina & Edmond

I spotted this wedding on a mutual friend’s Facebook page and had to get the contact details for the couple because I desperately wanted to share it with you! Selina and Edmond’s big day is everything I love about weddings… they injected their personality into the proceedings, crafted so many delicious details and not only did they have a fab photographer in Andrew Ho but also a photobooth… plenty of beautiful memories captured :)

Here’s Selina with their story…

The meeting

Edmond and I met at church almost 8 years ago. We didn’t particularly like each other at first. But like the saying goes, “opposites attract”…

The proposal

Edmond ended up re-creating our first date without me knowing and proposing at Edward Garden’s where we had our first kiss way back when. He had got a few of our friends to decorate, lining the entire path with LED lights and tea candles. It was magical! I said “Yes” and 2 years later we got married.

The wedding

The best part of our big day was really seeing our vision come alive in the decor, the food and really all the details that we spent months preparing. We wanted our wedding to be unique. The colour scheme really came out of our favourite colours: Edmond = orange and me = purple. We knew we wanted something whimsical, fun and not formal. I am an Art Director by day and how everything came together and looked was very important to me. Edmond and I are both foodies and made sure that the food served was exciting and yummy. We even had gourmet funnel cakes!!! It was definitely one of the most memorable days of our lives.

Giant gummy bears? Amazing!

Rozlyn & Kris

The best thing about blogging is, easily, the people you meet. I think I may do a blog post about that sometime actually. Recently, through our mutual friend Alex Beadon, I got to meet Dallas Curow, an amazing photographer based in Montreal. Whilst searching through her blog I came across a beautiful, cosy, relaxed wedding that I would have loved to be a guest at!

Not only did Dallas photograph the wedding but she was also the make-up artist (multi-talented!) and bridesmaid! What Dallas has to say about Rozlyn & Kris was especially lovely and I wanted to share it with you…

For many couples, marriage is an occasion of significant change. You leave a family home, your roommates, or bachelor(ette) pad to live with your marriage partner. You fill out all the paperwork. Maybe you even change your name. You’re choosing to embark on a whole new life.

Sometimes, however, you’re choosing for things to remain exactly the same, forever.

In the 10 years Rozlyn and Kris have been in love, they’ve grown up, made decisions as a team, adopted dogs and bought a home together. There has never been any doubt that this life, lived together, is the one for them. In choosing to get married, Roz and Kris celebrate the love they’ve shared so far, and announce their intention for things to remain exactly the same.

I love that the bride wore green. I love the vintage books on the tables. I love the warm, inviting atmosphere of the pub and I love that I’ve discovered another talented photographer :)

A rainbow petticoat

I love weddings! I don’t think I will ever get bored of seeing a couple representing themselves on their wedding day through the details they decide on. And today’s couple choose colour and craft which are personal favourites of mine ;) Super-sweet couple, Laurie & Brent wed on Prince Edward Island and Laurie DIYed everything! This wedding is literally bursting with delicious details such as the window seating plan, the pom poms, the strings of photos, the fabric napkins, the cute guest book and cake bunting… but that petticoat? Oh wow!

And the incredible photos were taken by Tara McMullen. For even more of this incredible wedding including the lobster cookout before the wedding head to this post on Tara’s blog. So many pretty pictures I couldn’t include them all!

Melissa & Michael

Melissa & Michael’s gorgeous wedding looks like it belongs firmly on the printed pages of a glossy magazine. The photography is stunning and the details make me think of Martha. What I really love about this wedding though is that it proves just how beautiful a DIY event can be as there are many elements in this wedding you could recreate yourself. From the simple but beautiful bouquets of lavender tied with lace, the ribbon backdrop to the vows, the drift wood centrepieces dotted with blooms and maps wrapped around tealight-holding glass vases… it is doable and boy is it beautiful…

A wedding for kids!

Well, not a wedding where kids get married but one that kids would love! There are some weddings where children aren’t allowed to attend (although it’s generally put across in a nicer way than that on the invite) but Gaia & Gerald’s wedding was the complete opposite.

Their wedding was even described by one guest as “the ultimate kid’s birthday party.” It was full of colour, animal silhouettes and crafty goodness. And they had too many choices for flower girl so rather than go without they had a kid parade, inviting all the children to walk down the aisle on their special day. And the best bit? The children could bring instruments, their loud voices and were asked to clap! So refreshing; I love it!
