Ornament invite

OK, I’m declaring that it is officially Christmas! Over here on the blog anyway… so for the next week or so it’s Christmas-related wedding stuff before I take a blogging break and eat way too much food with my family… I bloomin’ love Christmas! :)

First up? A Christmas invite idea…

I spotted this fantastic idea for a Christmas wedding invitation over on Pinterest

Ornament-invite

Made by Christy of ‘From Glitter to Gumdrops’, this was for a friend as a keepsake to commemorate her wedding. However, I think it would work exceptionally well as actual invitations for a Christmas wedding! All you’d have to do is print the wedding details on long strips of paper, pop them inside an empty bauble (British readers can find cheap ones here) and decorate with a pretty ribbon. Alternatively you could print your invite onto a square piece of paper and work some origami magic on it before placing it inside the ornament. Definitely different!

Scrapbooked memories

I wanted to share with you a gift I made recently for a friend’s parents’ 35th wedding anniversary as I thought it was quite a nice idea for those with a disc full of wedding images they’ve yet to use. It does take a little Photoshop (or other editing package) know-how however. Rather than your regular photo book I decided to put together a photo book that looked like a scrapbook, arranging photos alongside notes the couple had written one another over the course of the years, birthday cards and their wedding invite & vows…

Josy-&-Gord

As the book was a gift from the children I also got them to each write a note and then used different fonts, that looked like handwriting, arranging the words on digital notepaper…

Josy-&-Gord

Elements for the book were taken from Paper & Cloth, a book that comes with ready to use digital files as well as those found around the internet such as the scrabble letters I used to show the initials of the children. Pugly Pixel is also a fantastic resource for cute scrapbooking elements…

Josy-&-Gord

I think this would be lovely for wedding photos or just as a beautiful collection of photos from a relationship alongside ticket stubs and postcards from trips… all that stuff us girls love collecting when we’re dating somebody special ;)

Ribbon wands

Over a year ago I wrote a post on Natural Snaps: ideas for alternatives to confetti. Well here’s another adorable idea to add, complete with where you can find the DIY project. Ribbon wands are a super-cute way for guests to send you off on your honeymoon or just wave around whilst you share your first kisses as husband and wife. They’re really easy to make, just click here for the know how. You can get creative with colours and styles of ribbon, decide whether to add jingle bells and even think up ways to display them for your guests to grab…

DIY : Paper garlands

I wanted to pop a simple DIY tutorial on the blog that I used for a recent 35th anniversary party (I’ll share the party pics soon). The prep (punching paper) takes a little work but it’s something you can do in front of the telly and the finished results are so cute.

What you need:

Coloured/patterned paper of your choice
Circular paper punch
Thread
Sewing machine

What you do:

Punch out lots of circles! You can do them in different sizes and pick colours/patterns that complement the style of your wedding. I included maps from Algonquin Park in my garlands as the party couple had spent many camping trips there.

Next, stitch them all together. It’s best to stitch down the middle but you don’t have to be too precise. To make the stitching quicker have your circles in a pile, next to the sewing machine, in the order you want to stitch them. Then, as you stitch, grab the next circle and continuously feed the machine with circles until they’re all gone. If you get into a rhythm it doesn’t take as long as you’d expect.

Paper-garlands

Admire your pretty paper garlands :) And then wrap them up carefully until you want to hang them. I wrapped them around toilet roll tubes and placed them in sandwich bags. You can untangle them if they get tangled but it can be a little time consuming so I’d try to avoid it!

Paper-garlands

Hang them around your venue. You could use loose threads at either end to hang them but, as I thought that would be a little fiddly, I punched a hole in either end and used string to tie them to trees…

Paper-garlands

These don’t cost a fortune, are simple to make and look really pretty. Perfect!

A pom-pom path

It seems that this blog has affected my brain as I find myself “thinking wedding” all the time now. So when I saw these pictures…

Rugs

Awesome images via: Méchant Design

… I didn’t think “ooo what a lovely-looking rug to brighten up a room” I instantly thought “how incredibly cool would it be to have this as your wedding-day aisle?!”

Very cool is the answer.
