Personal (blog-related) highlights

Some amazing things happened this year relating to the blog, which I’m really rather happy about…

I got to have my picture taken by the wonderful Chloe of Caught The Light, I planned an inspiration shoot that the gorgeous Anna Hardy photographed for me (hopefully you’ll be seeing that on a blog soon!) and I finally met the awesome Alex Beadon after over a year of emailing back and forth!

I discovered I’d won the 2010 Sweet Table Contest! And got asked to be a judge for the 2011 competition!

Incredibly (and I’m still not so sure how when you consider the competition) I was highly commended by Cosmopolitan Magazine in their 2011 blog awards! I can’t tell you how much this means to me. It feels like I’ve finally achieved something worthwhile and I intend to make sure they don’t regret their decision by really working at this blog in 2012 :)

Blog Browsing Belle Amour

A new year has begun and I’m back in Toronto after an amazing (but exhausting) two weeks seeing friends and family. I think I’ll be facing some big decisions this year, one of which is the Canada vs. England debate. I also hope to make a few changes to this blog both in design and content and that will be a big focus in the first few months of the year… any suggestions always welcome?! ;) But before I do that and before I get back into the swing of blogging new weddings and crafty ideas here’s a little round up of the blogging year that’s just been…

I’m definitely planning on having a shoot like this of me and my man (when I bloomin’ well find him!)

Proposals make me cry!

Speaking of proposals… my fellow blogger on Belle Bébés, Verity, got engaged to her lovely man Gavin on Christmas Day! So I’d just like to say a massive congratulations to them both and let you know that I will definitely make her share her wedding planning journey on here! The fact I’ve told you now means she can’t back out of it… so that’s good ;)

I hope you’ve enjoyed clicking the links and seeing some posts you may well have missed! I’ll bring you the second part tomorrow along with a few personal blogging highlights of 2011 :)

Blog browsing ♥ 27-12-11

Hope everybody’s had a lovely Christmas! I’ve been insanely busy since I flew home for Christmas. It’s been wonderful… full of family and friends and I’ve barely been in the house long enough to sit down let alone to blog. I’ll be back before long though and until then here are just a few links I was looking at, and loving, earlier…

The dress! I am in love with the dress!

Such a sweet altar in this Vermont wedding.

Red and white. Perfect Christmassy colours for this dessert table.

So, this makes me want a boyfriend so badly!

This wedding isn’t particularly wintery but it’s the marriage of two of the best in the wedding business and I’m so happy for them :)

This would be an amazing flavour choice for a Christmas-wedding cake.

Cosy Christmas inspiration.

(Re)wrap it wonderfully

If you’re looking for some last minute inspiration for wrapping those Christmas presents or a way to prettify favour boxes at a wedding then perhaps you’ll find some ideas from a round-up I featured last year. I do love a bit of gorgeous giftwrapping :)

With Christmas fast approaching and lots of presents to wrap I was inspired to do a round up of gorgeous features focused on pretty packaging. I know in the end the wrapping’s likely to end up in the bin but I’m such a huge fan of pretty and love gift wrap with wow factor!

Just look at all these pretty parcels…

Rubber-stamped ribbons.

Scrabble tile tags & a slideshow of even more ideas.

Beautiful brown paper & buttons.

Use up them plastic grocery bags!

Wonderful-wrap

I LOVE pompoms!

An alternative to gift tags.

Stripy & chic.

Although these ideas use giftwrap and trimmings from Anthropolgie you could still find similar bits elsewhere. And you should definitely watch the video:

Delightful doilies!

Map wrap.

Cherry red & frosty blue beautifulness.

The cutest FREE gift tags! Go download them :)

Subdued & stunning!

Wonderful-wrap

Of course a lot of these ideas can easily transfer to your wedding; for decoration around your reception or for when it comes to wrapping favours. So, a perfect indulgence of my love of Christmas without completely going off the wedding topic. Awesome!

Blog browsing & your love story

Before I start blog browsing I just wanted to tell you about a fabulous booklet put together by art director Thaoski entitled The 7 Biggest Mistakes Couples Make with Their Engagement Photography. Thaoski wants to bring awareness to this often overlooked area of wedding photography in the UK…

“Many couples perceive engagement photos as cheesy and they think the sole purpose of an engagement shoot is to prepare the photographer for the wedding day. What they don’t realise is that a creative engagement shoot is a gorgeously fun way to capture the essence of their relationship during this romantic and beautiful transitionary stage of their life.”

Blog browsing 15.07.11

I completely agree that engagement photos are a great way to capture your love story. Of course wedding photography is important to document your big day but there are often friends and family sharing the scene. Your engagement photos would be just the two of you and, without witnesses (apart from the photographer), you’re likely to be more relaxed; able to focus on the connection you have with each other.

I read the entire booklet before writing this and can honestly say for anybody that’s just got engaged… read it! It’s full of advice to make the most of this special time in your life which really should be captured and remembered.

To download the booklet free of charge just click here. A hard copy will also be available to purchase soon for those that enjoy a browse of a book over a brew. And one more thing, you must check out this competition to win a free engagement shoot directed by Thaoski and photographed by Darren Wong. Once you’ve read the book and seen all the shoots Thaoski’s previously worked on you are going to want to win that prize!
