Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion’s starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don’t see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often, it’s not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it’s always there – fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge – they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I’ve got a sneaky feeling you’ll find that love actually is all around.
The above paragraph is the opening to my favourite Christmas movie, Love Actually. I’ve formed a bit of a tradition in that I have to watch this movie at least once every Christmas. I am a sucker for romance (hence the wedding blog) and this movie is full of lovely moments that give me that warm fuzzy feeling!
The airport scene at the start moves me the most. Showing real life people embracing their loved ones in the airport perfectly highlights what Christmas is all about. In the run up to Christmas, amidst the stress of writing cards, buying presents, deciding on dinner and shopping for it all, decorating the house and affording the whole lot it can be easy to forget about the very best bit… spending time with those you love.
Around the time this post goes on the blog I’ll be landing at Manchester airport and whilst there’ll be no emotional reunion there (we’re hiring a car and driving home) it will only be a couple more hours before I get to see my mum and start a packed two weeks full of seeing friends and family that I absolutely adore. I know how incredibly lucky I am to be home for Christmas, surrounded by those I love and that makes the fact I still have Christmas cards to write, blog posts to schedule and toys to crochet not seem so stressful. Besides, I can do all those jobs with a mug of mulled wine and Love Actually on the telly :)

I hope you too get to enjoy the run up to Christmas rather than resent it… because the people that matter won’t care if you sent their Christmas card late, forgot the stuffing or bought them the wrong-sized sweater :)

Ooo I do love a proposal story, being a big, soppy romantic and all :) And this one involves a cake! Even better because I’m also a massive fan of cake…
Sarah loves to bake so when Andrew told her they were going to a promotion at a local bakery it didn’t raise any suspicions. But Andrew had secretly arranged for the bakery, The Designer Cookie, to bake him a very special cake for their visit…
Photographer Janet Kwan arrived before Andrew & Sarah and pretended to be doing a shoot for the bakery. She was there to capture Sarah seeing her cake and then turning to find Andrew on bended knee…
How excited and adorable does Sarah look?! I love love :)

French photographer Ricardo Vieira emailed me last week asking if I’d like to share his work and after seeing it I couldn’t wait! This particular engagement shoot, of Ines & Juan, is full of what I love… hazy summer sun and a generous dollop of both tender and silly moments. Love is beautiful and this shoot captures it perfectly…
I’m a big fan of the feather-filled photos too :)

A city is more than just angular skyscrapers and bustling traffic. It’s also a collection of stories. Moments shared by those that live there or visitors passing through. And the Toronto Kiss Map wants to document those stories.
I read about this map in the Toronto Star just yesterday, whilst waiting for a friend to take me to IKEA (love that place!), and excitedly noted it down to look at later. Started by writing coach Chris Kay anybody that has shared a smooch in Toronto can mark it down on the map with a little story to accompany it. The only rules? No names or initials are to be used, no more than 100 words per story and no jerks ruining the fun for others (hate those people!)
What was once an ordinary Google map is now covered with markers of shared embraces and what was once just a regular street could be a first kiss and the beginning of someone’s love story or a kiss goodbye and a heart torn in two…
I enjoyed reading about the moments, sweet and sad, shared in this city I’m living in. Here are a few of the stories that were sealed with a kiss…
Chris’s amazing idea has recently been given a grant by the Toronto Awesome Foundation (see her winning speech here) and will soon have its own home and lots of new features. I look forward to seeing it and who knows maybe one day in this year of mine in Toronto I’ll be able to add my own marker and my own story to all the others shared :)
