A cosy French winter wedding

Provided you’re wrapped up warm, there’s something so cosy and romantic about a winter wedding. Take Françoise and Méderic’s; they married five years ago but when they decided to renew their vows they picked a white, wintery wedding setting, cosy cabins, loads of twinkling lights and made it a week long party with their friends. What’s not to love about that?!

Here’s Sandrine, from Sisters Events Prod, to describe Françoise and Méderic’s big day in Chatel, Haute Savoie…

When Françoise contacted me the first time, she explained to me their expectations: they wanted a bachelor/bachelorette party the day before the wedding; for the wedding itself, the couple wanted an intimate friendly wedding in the middle of the snow. They wanted to pass on a message with their wedding, it had to describe them: no rules or religion, it was about enjoying being together with close friends and sharing their love. Also, they had a special request: they asked me to help the bestman, Cyrille, to organize his own proposal (which will happen during the bachelor party).

Parties & a proposal

The couple rented a chalet in Chatel where they spent a week of holidays with all their friends. We asked Marc Daviet, an amazing photographer, to capture all the best moments of those festivities. The bachelor/bachelorette party took place the first day with a caving activity for men and dogsled for women. In parallel of these activities, we organized a “fake treasure hunt” (as treasure: the engagement ring for Lauriane). In the afternoon, men and women finished their respective activities and met in a lovely place for the last step of the “treasure hunt” : THE proposal!

Of course Lauriane won the hunt and what was her surprise when she discovered the ring, followed by the question ”Lauriane, would you marry me ?”. She cried and said a big “YES”. After this moment full of emotion, they came back to the chalet and ate a delicious “raclette”. One more time, it was a wonderful moment with a lot of laugh and surprises.

The wedding

The next day was the wedding day. The preparation of the bride started early in the morning with a hairstyle by Elisabeth. Françoise wore a tailor-made dress made by Marjorie. It was a mix between her first wedding dress and a new one. While everybody was preparing, I set up the decoration for the ceremony and the evening party.

The theme of the wedding was “the winter” with the main colours being white, blue and silver. For the ceremony, I put fake snow in a vase and some white branches. I added on a few branches, white roses and feathers. Unfortunately, because of the rain, we couldn’t have the ceremony on the terrace, so we decided to have it on the balcony. The lovely snowy setting made this ceremony even more romantic than it already was .

The reception

After photos, two limousines took us to the restaurant “la Samoyede” in Avoriaz for the wedding lunch. The chef cooked a delicious lunch with scallops, foie gras, a local dish and a wedding cake. After this gastronomic lunch we came back to the chalet for the party. We danced and had fun until 5am in the morning.

The dancing

I would like to thank Françoise and Méderic as well as their lovely friends Cyrille, Lauriane, Stephie, Antoine, Bertrand, Alexandra, Jeff and Tom. Thanks to them, Marc (the photographer) and I had two wonderful days and we felt as if we were with our own friends.

The winter wonderland makes the wedding. Going to France and hosting it at a chalet is lovely. Hopefully there were no skiing injuries!
