Kelly & John : a Toronto wedding using the TTC for transport!

I have been a bad blogger recently. Well, just a really busy one. I was pouring my efforts into something else. Since I wrote the post on May 28th everything has changed. Well, not everything because I’m still happy. But I will no longer be staying in Toronto and my new plan involves putting more effort into this blog and my love of event design. On the day I book a ticket to fly out of Toronto I thought it rather fitting to share a wedding from this city I’ve been proud to call home for the last 14 months.

Kelly & John married at the stunning St. James Cathedral and rather than opt for some fancy mode of transport they decided the TTC was just fine for them! I love the amazing images captured by Jennifer Ballard. And I love that I get to share them.

Handing over to the beautiful bride to tell you more…

The wedding

Our inspiration for our wedding was music and the city. My husband works in the music industry, and we are both huge music fans. We met at a radio station and had our first “date” at a concert. During our first year or so together we attended another very memorable concert at the Berkeley Church which made it a top choice for our venue.

The best part of the day? I don’t know how anyone could answer differently and it may be a cliché, but walking down the aisle to finally meet and marry my very best friend was definitely a front runner. To be honest I really loved every moment of the day from start to finish. Let’s put it this way, if I were trapped in the life Bill Murray’s character experienced in the movie Groundhog Day, that would be my day.

Since we live in Toronto we wanted to integrate a part of the city into our day which was why we opted to use the streetcar as our mode of transportation instead of a typical car service.

I tried to personally create or put a special spin on as many different facets of the wedding as I could. I used a lot of records to bring in the music theme, both LP’s and 45’s, for our invitations, table seating chart and even the serving trays for our cake and cupcakes. We used an instant camera for our photo guest book and mounted the photos on framed corkboard to display the pictures day of and afterwards in our home.

I loved our rice krispie cake which I made the day before, even though I didn’t get a chance to try it. I have to say above all though, my favourite was a little last minute project which was on display at our parents tables. We set out special candles as a memorial for members of our families who had passed away. It made me feel, and hopefully others as well, that they were also taking part in the day.

Advice for other brides? You are there for one reason, keep your eyes on the prize and don’t let details get in the way. Relax and enjoy the day.
