Sophie & Nick : 30-07-10 : Harrogate & Leeds

I have another two-parter wedding post for you! First part today, second part tomorrow, both parts beautiful and crammed with gorgeous images from the fab Annemarie King. Sophie & Nick’s wedding day is a fantastic example of how to pick a theme you like and then carry it through all the gorgeous details…

The meeting

We met when we were 15 years old out with our friends.

The proposal

Nick took me to a beautiful hotel on the Holy Island in Northumberland. We had seen the hotel 2 years before and we both wished we had stayed there; Nick remembered this and took me back there for our 10 year anniversary. He proposed, as the sun set behind us, in the restaurant of the hotel in front of lots of people! He chose my beautiful ring, it was perfect…

The wedding

Stationery: Being an artist I made all the invitations, order of service, menus , table names, table plan, wish tree labels, gift tags and thank you cards myself, using wallpaper.

Hair: A wonderful family friend who is also an amazing hairdresser called Sue Fry based in Alwoodley Leeds.

Make-up: Helen at Me! Amazing make up that lasted all day!

Dress: I designed my dress myself after finding nothing that quite fit the idea I had. I then went to Anita Massarella in Moortown Leeds as I knew they made couture bespoke gowns. Whilst describing my idea Anita drew the design. The dress was bespoke made with silk and Italian lace. I cannot recommend Anita and her team highly enough, both my mum and I loved visiting the shop and seeing how the dress developed over time. Such lovely people, a fantastic shop.

Shoes: Rachel Simpson, she makes beautiful vintage inspired shoes, they are a little bit different and fit perfectly with the dress.

Bridesmaids: The dresses were bespoke made by Debbie Goldthorpe at Paradise Grove, Horsforth, Leeds. Debbie was fantastic at working with a lot of bridesmaids and made exactly what we wanted and managed to source that gorgeous purple fabric.

Groom/groomsmen: The suits were hired from Moss Bros and the ties were made with the same fabric as the bridesmaid’s dresses.

Flowers & buttonholes: Joanna McCrea at Twisted Willow Floristry. Joanna listened as to what we wanted the overall ambience of the day to be like – summer meadow, natural arrangements, colourful, lots of variety! Together with my mum and Joanna’s extensive knowledge of flowers they had such a massive impact on the look of the day.

Transport: A Beauford provided by Lavelle Classics for the bride and groom. A Daimler provided by Terry Scott Vintage Cars for the bridesmaids.

Ceremony venue: St Giles Church, Bramhope, Leeds.

Ceremony music: We had the singer Jill Ryder she sang Songbird as I walked down the aisle. We had the traditional hymns All Things Bright and Beautiful & Praise My Soul.

I love that Sophie had a wedding scrapbook! This is a great idea for all brides. Buy a book full of blank pages and everything you see that you like whether it be from magazines or printed from a blog or a swatch of material – stick it in! Having all the ideas you like in one place in front of you will help you decide on your vision for the day. Sophie’s vision was executed perfectly; you’ll see for yourself tomorrow…
