Pretty paper

The Hummingbird Card Company, based in Leicestershire UK, creates beautifully intricate stationery that is reminiscent of vintage lace. Established in 2007, by two friends (Sally-Ann & Suzi) with a background in fashion, the company has just won The Perfect Wedding Magazine Award for ‘Best Stationery’!

The stationery has quite a traditional, romantic look to it but by using the technique of laser cutting, pieces of the card are burnt away to leave designs that look sophisticated, contemporary and perfectly pretty.

There are loads of items and designs to choose from too!

Sophisticated stationery

The wedding stationery ranges include all items you can think of from invites to menus to thank you cards. And come in stunning designs. My favourites are the butterfly and heart collections. The butterfly range is just the thing for a spring or summer wedding and, well, hearts always work in a wedding!

Love letters

In other items: layers of ornate butterflies displayed in a shadow box make a perfect wedding gift or even a first anniversary gift for the love in your life (especially as tradition states paper symbolises the first anniversary). And laser cut notepaper could be an alternative to a thank you card. I think I’d actually prefer to receive a letter because it never happens anymore! I used to love writing to and receiving letters from my cousin (who always fashioned the envelopes out of pages from Smash Hits magazine!) But emails stopped all that years ago. Make your guests feel like they’re in a period drama by sending them a letter on really romantic paper. Or be really soppy (really romantic?) and write your partner love letters!

Shadows never looked so good

And then there are the oh-so-beautiful mobiles. These will look lovely hanging from branches of a outdoor wedding or from the ceiling of a indoor wedding. Even if you don’t opt for the stationery range these will still make lovely reception decorations. The stars would look particularly good in a winter wonderland wedding me thinks.

Christmastime

And if you’re going for a Christmas wedding with a bit of colour? Then there are the Christmassy red coloured baubles and stars to think about. And don’t just think these are only suitable for a wedding. I want some of these for my house for Christmas this year!

Gorgeous greetings

The Hummingbird Card Company don’t just do wedding stationery they also have a range of greetings cards for all occasions. I’m really fond of the folksy red heart. It’s just so intricate yet manages to look simply beautiful at the same time. Personally I don’t see why you can’t make these your wedding invites. At only £2.95 each they work out cheaper than most invites around and then all you need to do is print out an insert with your wedding details to stick inside – easy! And the same goes for the other greetings cards: if you want a play-on-words wedding for the perfect pair then go for the cute green pear card.

There’s something just that extra bit special about laser-cut stationery. I think it’s perhaps the fact that, unless you have several thousand pounds spare to get your hands on a machine yourself (which one day I hope I will cos that would be SO much fun to play with), you simply can’t make stationery like this yourself.

  1. [...] I raved about the Hummingbird Card Company, back in April, after I saw their stunning stationery at The National Wedding Show. They kindly sent me a sample of one of their butterfly cards recently and I have to say I was blown away by how beautiful the invitation was. I just love laser-cut cards! [...]
