Vanessa & George : Palos Verdes, California

The wedding I am about to show you is my kinda wedding.

Yes, the bride and groom are gorgeous, the dress is stunning and where the ceremony took place is simply breath-taking. But what I really love about this one is that they’ve stamped their personality all over it! The bride has picked a stand-out dress with that statement-piece beautiful belt, the wedding transport beats any Rolls Royce in my book, the cake shows these guys have a sense of humour and before I saw the cufflinks and ice sculpture I had no idea cartoon-inspired wedding details would look so damn good!

Enjoy this insanely cool wedding, beautifully shot by Weston & Marissa Bouchér:

Props & presents

I mentioned in this pretty post that I love a good prop in a wedding. I just think it gives something special to the photos; makes them stand out from the normal shots, makes them more unique. And today I have a quirky little prop for you. Bring on the moustache on a stick!

Honeymoon hideaway

I have the sweetest honeymoon destination for you today. It’s not some swish hotel where you will get pampered to the max. Quite the opposite in fact. It’s quaint and simple and, if you wanted, you wouldn’t have to see a single soul for your entire stay (after you’ve got the keys off the owners of course)!

Although I do love the idea of being pampered in a fancy hotel (and I’ll be sure to feature some of these honeymoon ideas) I also love the idea of being hidden away from civilization, where it’s just the two of you, as a honeymoon should be.

And so this eco-friendly woodland cabin, built by owners Diane & Bob, in the Dordogne region of France definitely appeals:

Woodsman's Cabin

Cabin cosy

Woodsman’s Cabin has a wonderful cosy cottage appeal which is emphasised by the use of alternative energies such as the real wood-burning stove. There is a small amount of solar-powered electricity if you need to get up in the night but mainly you will be relying on candlelight and oil lamps: so romantic!

Woodsman's Cabin cosy cottage

Lakeside location

What’s more, the cabin is positioned on a lake complete with boat so you can enjoy any sun whilst bobbing about on the water. Or go fishing if that’s your thing! Or perhaps you’d rather relax on the lakeside rustic benches or the hammocks strung between the trees?

Woodsman's Cabin lake

Explore

Of course, there’s no television but you shouldn’t need it! There are books, art materials, board games and the local area to explore where you will find a great local market, vineyard, caves and a chateau. And, remember, you have each other!

If you’re up for exploring, bikes can be hired for 45 Euros (about £40) each per week. But if you’ve gone for the honeymoon package you’ll have your own super-cute tandem to ride!

Woodsman's Cabin tandem bike

A haven for honeymooners

The honeymoon package is a fantastic touch. This cabin is lovely just as it is, costing only around £430 for seven nights between May and September and £325 the rest of the year. But, for only slightly more (about £650), it’s nice to have those extra special treats that the honeymoon package provides. Here’s what’s included:

  • Champagne & fresh flowers on your arrival.
  • Dinner freshly cooked and delivered to the cabin on your first evening.
  • Breakfast of fresh bread, croissants & homemade jams delivered each morning.
  • And, of course, use of that awesome tandem bike!

DIY dining

For preparing yourself some scrumptious grub, the kitchen has a gas oven and gas-powered fridge and includes all the equipment you’d need to prepare and cook meals. Outside there’s also a wood-fired cooker and campfire-style BBQ if you’re after dining al fresco.

And for those that arrive after the shops have shut, or are simply too tired after travelling to want to go shopping, the ‘shop-in-a-box’ containing basic foodstuffs is for you!

Cabin Cuisine

If, however, you don’t fancy cooking on your honeymoon, owner Diane happily offers Cabin Cuisine. A three course meal can be delivered to you for only 25 Euros per person (around £22). You can even take advantage of this offer if you’re not on the honeymoon package!

And you really need to hear some sample, seasonal menus as my mouth was watering just reading them!

Spring
Starter: Home-made guacamole with tortillas
Main: Chicken stuffed with basil & goats’ cheese, accompanied by cherry tomato salsa and rice
Dessert: Tart au citron

Summer
Starter: Red onion, goats’ cheese & courgette tart
Main: Smoked duck breast salad with minted tabouleh
Dessert: Raspberry & rosewater syllabub

Autumn
Starter: Pumpkin & bacon soup
Main: Pork chops in cider & apple sauce with parsley mash
Dessert: Plum, pear & almond crumble

Winter
Starter: Herb frittata with smoked salmon
Main: Turkey, blue cheese & apricot pie
Dessert: Fresh baked figs with sticky toffee pudding

Yum!

All meals are served with fresh bread and seasonal vegetables and vegetarian menus are available on request. Dianne will even take the washing-up away afterwards!

Fisherman’s Cabin

Diane & Bob also own a second cabin, Fisherman’s Cabin, which has the added luxury of electric lights but doesn’t offer the honeymoon package or the cabin cuisine. Thought it needed mentioning though as I believe breaks this beautiful shouldn’t just be reserved for honeymooners!

Bryony & James : 30-01-10 : Stock, Essex

I’m really excited today as I’m showing my first British real wedding! And it’s a lovely one with a stupidly sweet proposal story.

Bryony and James met at university and got engaged on Bryony’s birthday. Says Bryony:

The proposal

He proposed on a beach in Dieppe, France. We completed a London to Paris cycle ride in 2008 and actually rode past the same beach, however that day it was raining so hard we didn’t notice it. We decided to ride the same route again on my birthday and went to sit on the beach before we went for lunch. James went for a wander. When he came back he told me to close my eyes and put out my hands. When I opened them I saw I was holding a ring he’d handmade! I had no idea he was going to propose! He had been making the ring for the past month; carving it out of wood. He’d engraved it with ‘This ring is just for now, but I’ll love you forever’.

The wedding

Bryony & James hair

Hair: The side tiara is from The Wedding Shop in Colchester and was a gift from my mum. I had my hair done at Essentials in Billericay.

Make-up: A friend of my sister, Kirsty Hills, did my make-up. She did an amazing job!

Bryony & James make-up

Dress: My dress was from Grace and Lace. I went to a few shops and tried loads on. My Mum picked the dress for me to try on and it was the best I’d seen, despite the bulldog clips on the back! I originally had thought that I really didn’t want a boob tube-style dress but all the other styles just looked like evening dresses and didn’t have that ‘special wedding feel’. When I tried my actual dress on I knew it was the right dress.

Shoes: Debenhams kids!

Bryony & James the dress

Bridesmaids: My sisters Verity and Camilla were my bridesmaids and I picked blue for their dresses as it suited both of them.

Groom/groomsmen suits: Debenhams.

Brides Flowers: Tear drop style of ivory roses, Dendrobium Orchids, purple-tipped Lisianthus, Asparagus Fern, purple-tipped Gypsophila and Soft Ruscus.

Bridesmaid flowers: Hand tied bouquets of ivory roses.

Button holes: Ivory roses.

Top table Floral Arrangement: A large double-ended spray arrangement with Blue Moon Freesias, ivory roses, purple-edged Lisianthus, ivory Lisianthus, Dendrobium Orchids, purple-tinted Gypsophelia. All my flowers were by The Flower House.

Venue: Crondon Park, Essex. It was the first venue we went to and we both loved the look of it inside. We knew most of the photos would be inside as it was a January wedding and we also liked that the bar was in the same room.

Ceremony music: My cousins Lauren and Fran played the flute whilst I walked down the aisle. They are very talented and we thought live music would make the ceremony more special.

Bryony & James the ceremony

Transport: Transport was our Beetle that we bought off James’ parents a few years ago. James’ parents have had it since new, it was bought for them as a wedding present in 1972. His older sister used it as their wedding car too!

Bryony & James transport

Cake: It was a Marks & Spencer’s cake, a mixture of sponge and fruit.

Favours: These were Jaffa cakes, my favourite!

Bryony & James the cake

Table plan: James thought of the idea and made it. It has photos around the edge from when we first met up until the wedding. We are planning on removing the table names and putting wedding photos of the day in the centre and getting it framed.

Table numbers: We hadn’t chosen what we were going to do and thought playing cards would work!

Bryony & James table plan

Entertainment: The band were ‘Radio Play’. Mike, the lead singer, plays at the Hot House in Chelmsford and we saw him and asked if he’d play at our wedding. We then went and saw his band play in Southend and booked them. They were fantastic!

Big thanks to Bryony for providing me with all the details and Simon for the amazing images! How lovely was that proposal story?! And the wedding details were just great: amazing DIY table plan and I love that even simple Jaffa cakes can make fancy favours. I also believe that wedding photos can really benefit from a prop and that classic Beetle made for one awesome prop!

Inspirational Tables

Every time I look at images like the ones I’m about to show you I yearn to be a wedding planner! I love how everything comes together to suit a theme and how many different themes there can be. The options for decorating a table are endless. I’ve picked 15 very different styles to inspire you when deciding on your decor. Enjoy!

1. Pure white

Pure white

Crisp white table linens, white crockery, white flowers in a white container and white speckled votive holders make for a stunningly simple look.

2. Tulips & chocolate

Browns and pinks are romantic without being overly girly. I love the tall vases of tulips dotted around and how these are mixed with smaller arrangements of pink blooms.

3. Back to nature

Go green with a whole host of leafyness for your tablecentre. Plants, moss, artichokes… teamed with nature-inspired stationery is perfect for an outdoor setting or conservatory-type venue.

4. Seaside splendor

Tropical colours such as these would look lovely by the sea. A simple scattering of petals and candlelight is enough to dress a table.

5. Garden glam

A garden affair works well with an assortment of jars and vases filled with a variety of blooms. Combine this with floral stationery, home-made jam favours and some country-cottage-cushions and you’re done!

Dusky pinks and purples with a hint of silver light is a stunning and sophisticated wedding theme.

Bright and bold red. Authentic oriental paper decorations hanging from the centrepiece is a lovely touch. And no oriental affair would be complete without a fan!

12. Simple & sweet

Proof that a table design does not need to be over the top to be charming. Little glass cups filled with flowers that could be picked from your garden, a sprig of leaves to garnish the plates all atop a natural wooden table and you have an easy-to-put-together idea that still screams style!

13. Autumnal opulence

Rich browns, reds, oranges and golds are not only great for an autumn-inspired event but would also work well for an India-inspired day. The lavish floral centrepieces and ornate embroidered tablecloths complement the rich colours of this design.

14. Rustic charm

Any countryside wedding would look lovely with a table dressed like this one. A natural linen table runner adds to the earthy appeal and a host of tins and jars filled with all sorts of flowers results in a natural look that makes sense for a a rural event.

15. Roses & black

Red and black is always a striking look. I particularly like this theme for winter weddings or a Valentine’s affair but it would work year round. It’s sexy and romantic all at the same time! Ask your guests to wear black tie and you have one super-stylish event!
